Composting 101

What is Composting?

Composting is the practice of the breaking down of organic waste using oxygen, which is then utilised for gardening or farming as a fertiliser (Bay Area Recycling for Charities, 2019).

Why is Composting important?

There are many reasons:  - Reduces the presence of organic waste in landfill, which helps to stop the presence of methane and other greenhouse gases from entering into the atmosphere (Bay Area Recycling for Charities, 2019). - The by-products of composting are used as a natural fertiliser, which can promote plant growth (Bay Area Recycling for Charities, 2019).
